Hayfever Tips

It’s so good to see the sun out ☀️☀️☀️, but for many people spring comes hand in hand with hayfever.

Are you or your children struggling with sneezing, runny noses and itchy eyes or lesser known symptoms such as a sore throat?

To help reduce symptoms of this immune reaction, which is also known as allergic rhinitis, here are some helpful tips:

☀️Vitamin C helps to regulate histamine in the body. Eat a regular supply of vitamin C rich foods such as kiwi, peppers, broccoli and parsley. You can also consider a vitamin C supplement.

☀️Eat foods that can inhibit histamine release such as apples, onions, and watercress, plus the herbal teas chamomile and holy basil.

☀️Ensure you have a good intake of nutrients that help the body to breakdown histamine, such as B6, zinc, copper and magnesium.

☀️Enjoy an anti-inflammatory diet, including plenty of colourful fresh fruit and vegetables, alongside whole grain foods, oily fish, quality protein, nuts and seeds. The Mediterranean diet is the best example.

☀️Keep hydrated and drink water gradually across the day (around 2 litres for an adult) to keep your nasal passages moist and to reduce histamine levels.

☀️Vitamin D helps to keep your immune system in check. Get your levels tested, then supplement appropriately.

☀️Before the pollen season commences, start to eat foods high in omega 3 such as oily fish, chia seeds and walnuts to help balance your immune system.

☀️Well before the spring, get hold of some local honey and take a daily spoonful to help you desensitise your reaction to pollen. There is good anecdotal evidence for this approach.

☀️Rub @Hayfevermaxofficial on the inside of your nostrils to trap pollen and prevent a an immune reaction.

☀️Use a saline nasal spray or neti pot to clear out allergens from nasal passages.

☀️@AllergyUK report that wearing a face mask can help to reduce symptoms by acting as a barrier and reducing the amount of pollen inhaled.
