Hormone Balancing Smoothie bowl

Here’s a smoothie bowl that doubles up as a female hormone balancing aid

Stress causes havoc with female hormones and right now there’s more than enough of it going around. You can help your body adapt to new challenges by optimising the key nutrients that support hormone balance and smoothies are an incredibly easy way of achieving this in one easy hit.

In this smoothie bowl, I’ve included:

Flax seeds containing phytoestrogens to support oestrogen production to balance the menstrual cycle and peri-menopausal symptoms.

Spinach for magnesium to maintain a feeling of calm. At the same time magnesium plays a key role in energy production and will help you keeping going all day long. (Note: we need even more of this mineral in times of stress).

Blackberries and beetroot provide vitamin C to support the adrenal glands that produce our stress hormones, including cortisol and adrenalin.

Beetroot and spinach contain folate for breast health, low levels of which can contribute to cyclical breast tenderness.

Quinoa flakes provide the protein to keep blood sugars stable (fundamental for hormone balance) and full until lunch.

Lemon balm tea to help reduce anxiety .

Toppings

You can add more toppings such as pumpkin seeds and nuts for crunch and more nutrients, but don’t add any more fruit as it’s already in your smoothie and excess amounts will push your blood sugar levels up and impact upon your hormone balance.

Ingredients

8 tbsp quinoa flakes (replace with oats if you prefer) 1 banana

6 frozen blackberries

2 handfuls of frozen spinach

1/4 cucumber roughly chopped

1 beetroot roughly chopped

Thumb sized piece of ginger

2tbsp flaxseeds

2 tsp tahini

Mug of lemon balm tea

Method

  1. Add all ingredients into a blender and blitz until smooth.

  2. Pour into a bowl and add toppings

  3. Enjoy!
